Have you ever wanted MORE PlayStation in your life? When you were playing your favorite PlayStation exclusives, did you ever imagine a TV series of God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn? Get ready for all kinds of content, as Sony has created ‘PlayStation Productions,’ a new studio focused on creating TV shows & films based on PlayStation games.
Helmed by Asad Qizilbash and overseen by Shawn Layden, this Culver City-based studio is already working on the first wave of projects as I type this article.
“We’ve got 25 years of game development experience, and that’s created 25 years of great games, franchises and stories,” said Shawn Lsyfen toThe Hollywood Reporter, who broke this major news. “We feel that now is a good time to look at other media opportunities across streaming, film, or television to give our world’s life in another spectrum.”
While Sony Pictures will distribute the films, PlayStation Productions will produce the projects instead of licensing them out to other entertainment companies.
Their biggest inspiration for this new division? Marvel Studios, of course.
“We looked at what Marvel has done in taking the world of comic books and making it into the biggest thing in the film world. It would be a lofty goal to say we’re following in their footsteps, but certainly we’re taking inspiration from that,” said Layden.
