Belly-Flopping Into Beautiful Chaos Like the Universe Just Rolled Out the Welcome Mat…

Vibrant Disorder Shapes a World of Surreal Delight

by RiftMode

As I take another sniff of the universe, I can smell the ozone from a nearby lightning storm, the stench of poor decision-making, and “alien meth lab chic” within the walls of the G3 cartel’s intergalactic processing plant. I clutch my trusty sidearm, poor old Kenny. He’s a neurotic, traumatized pistol with a fleshy eye that rolls wildly in his socket. He has a tendency to lose his mind at the worst possible moments. In this case, he’s focused on an ant-like alien with a third eye in a tracksuit, snorting powder from a console. “Is that Gary from accounting? They’re snorting accountants! Hey, Trash-Bag Alien! I’ll introduce you to high-velocity plasma!” As Kenny fires wildly, he knocks me off my feet. A squad of G3 cartel guards turns to face me. Their mandibles click greedily as they take in my appearance in front of the lime and periwinkle buildings that seem to be attacking my retina.

And so my life becomes. Forty minutes or so from my point in time to this dark and gritty future. Some poor, sorry soul for me to use as cannon fodder. Because, apparently, I am humanity’s savior in this intergalactic battlefield against vile cartels and their foul trade in an array of funky human body parts. I rack Kenny’s slide. Gary, a poor, unfortunate soul. In his past life, he was a middle-aged, balding man named Gary who worked in the accounting department of a large corporation for some thirty years or so. And now, he’s been stuffed full of some foul, greenish powder and is prepared for someone’s after-work relaxation on a Tuesday evening. I rack the slide again. Yeah, that’s about right.
