Momentum Becomes Your Lifeline Across the Ruins While Strategy Finds Its Own Pulse Beyond the Dust…

Where the Land Reacts to Every Stride

by RiftMode

Endless desert lands extend all the way to the edges of the frontier. A massive beast awaits at the edge of this land. The creature is as tall as the highest dunes and moves like a mountain. On its back, a breathless metropolis extends as far as the eye can reach. While older districts cling to the surface of the behemoth’s carapace at near-vertical angles, the new industrial areas and energy networks are cold, hard crystalline structures. For a brief instant, all the disparate, ramshackle areas of the city cohere into a single, living entity, functioning in perfect, synchronized harmony. In order to plan routes throughout the giant’s destruction, I have to keep track of the huge amounts of dust and earth that fall from its enormous form. The amount of mass varies with the giant’s speed, sometimes piling up enough to block routes completely, and at other times laying down huge paths of newly made land for me to speed through.

I can switch to an industrial hub in an instant if the giant suddenly increases its speed. Beyond the massive shell of the giant, the brutal wasteland stretches out across the horizon, scenes of conflict unfolding in eruptions of violence. The fierce struggles of rival factions and warring armies to claim the desolate landscape shift as the giant takes another slow turn, providing a constantly changing landscape as great structures rise and fall around you. It’s rarely still, and I have to adapt my whole approach in sync with the shell’s lumbering stride, connecting up structures so that there’s a constant ebb and flow of trade. When a change in the structure of the shell below forces it to change direction, I have to rapidly alter and extend the whole lot once more. It’s different every time, with the possibility of collapse always lurking. I battle to expand, modify, and continuously resuscitate my many buildings. In this unique environment, momentum is essential to survival.
