It’s the highest level of hockey, where players throw checks, and the refs are nowhere around. The cold air stings at your face, but that’s half the challenge. It’s rough and tumble out here. Grabbing, slashing, collisions. With teeth. Every now and then a fight breaks out. Sticks are sent flying in all directions. Your job is done as the puck travels through the maddening mayhem of sticky skating, fins of arms and slabs of stick to travel down to your feet and shoot away, as your linemate catches it perfectly in stride in a burst of high-octane speed as you both continue on your beautiful, unbridled, borderless hockey. Every step on the ice is to express yourself. Every move you make is to dare someone to try to check you for your actions. Every shot on goal is a war to try and score against another player.
